Evony Farming – Layers for Level 10 NPC Farming with Attack Heroes level 140+

Every Evony player should know by now that all Evony heroes with at least 220-240 points in the Attack attribute (depending on said hero's Intelligence attribute points) to start being able to successfully farm/attack level 10 NPCs WITHOUT scouting them first – while still having less than 6-7k archer losses – no matter the level of the defending level 10 NPC's mayor.

* Layers – The word "Layers" or "Layer", in regard to Evony discussion, refers to the exact/specific troop types and troop amounts sent in an attack. Another popular term for "Layer" that some people use in Evony is "Rainbow" as in, "What type of attack rainbow did you use when attacking that level 10 NPC?"

However, many Evony players do not know that there are many different "Farming Layers" to use at different times in order to better your results (which is ALWAYS less archer losses when farming Level 10 NPCs in Evony for food and other resources).

Some tricky things about farming level 10 NPCs in Evony are that some level 10 NPC farming layers work better than others when farming depending on your hero's intelligence attribute (apparently), plus some layers stop working as well as they once did when your hero's attack attribute goes beyond 300. Just like some layers work better for heroes beyond 300 attack but not before, and some layers only work well for heroes beyond 700. You just have to mess around with them!

Layers found to work well with Heroes above 220 Attack, and some for 350+ Heroes:

Hero Level Worker Warrior Scout Pikes Swords Archer Trans
250-350 2000 2000 3000     91000 2000
230-340 1 1 4996 1 1 93000 2000
300-350 1000 1000 3000 1000 1000 91000 2000
300+ 3000   7000     88000 2000
350+   6000 300 500 500 88000 2000

Okay.. so having strong and awesome Evony heroes is good and all.. but what do you do before your hero is strong enough to farm level 10 NPCs without losing over 7k Archers?? Well, you can keep being an Evony Uber-Noob by farming lvl 5 NPCs for 90k exp, you can step your Not-So-Noob-Level up a notch by doing some "Warrior Bombs" on lvl 6-8 NPCs with 50-100k Warriors for 220-700k experience, OR..

Just add some Ballista to the above attack layers, subtracting the same amount of archers, and use a hero with at least 140 attack – Only loses 4-7k Arch, just like the big boys! Evony Noob-Level no longer in question… 😉

Here's some "ULTIMATE Evony Level 10 Farming Layers" that work well with Heroes that are below 220 Attack. Heroes below 140-170 attack will need less Archers and More Cow Bell Ballista!!

Hero Level Worker Warrior Scout Pikes Swords Archer Ballista Trans

Evony Tip – Espionage: Spying, Everyone’s Doing it.

If you're in a top 20 Evony alliance then chances are your alliance is being spied on by someone, or perhaps it is your Evony alliance doing the spying on some other unwitting alliance. Either way, it's happening – you may as well know what to do about it.

Evony spies come in to alliances for all sorts of reasons. Some times an Evony spy may be spying on your alliance from a blue allied alliance just to "keep tabs" on your alliance so he can report back to his/her real Evony alliance leaders and let them know what kind of strengths their allies really have. However, generally an Evony spy is in your alliance to gather information that could be used maliciously.

Here's a list of things that are commonly recorded and passed along by even the most mediocre Evony spies:

  • Evony Alliance Member City Coordinates
  • Evony Alliance Members Low on Troops
  • Evony Alliance Members with Lots of Unprotected Resources
  • Times of Planned Attacks on Hostile Evony Alliances
  • News Regarding Friendly Evony Alliances
  • Group Mails

Also, here's a list of things spies more skilled in the Art of Evony Espionage will take note of:

  • Which Evony Alliance Members' Cities are Strong/Weak
  • Which Evony Alliance Members are Strong/Skilled
  • Timezones and Sleeping/Work Schedules of Important/Strong Evony Alliance Members
  • High Level Evony Hero Locations
  • Evony Hero/City Transferring (For Stealing)

So what can you do in order to avoid being the victim of Evony Espionage? Evony Counter-Intelligence of course! First of all, any Evony Alliance looking to be elite needs to have a strict recruiting regime. No taking in just any ol' passer-by, you have to set requirements, minimums, and most importantly – Do Evony background checks! New recruits should be scrutinized no matter how much you may be wanting new or strong players in your Evony alliance – looks are often deceiving.

Here are some things you can do to improve Alliance Security and hinder Evony Espionage from doing much damage at all to your Evony Alliance:

  • For ANY and ALL Important Evony Alliance Matters Use an External Group Chat method such as Skype, Ventrilo, AIM, Y!Messenger, etc..
  • Have Different Tiers of Chat Rooms/Areas for Hosts Only, Presbyters and Hosts, Officers and Above, and then one for the Entire Evony Alliance including Members.
  • Remind Evony Alliance Members to NOT give out their Coordinates, Hero Locations, or Schedules in Evony Alliance Chat.
  • Remind Evony Alliance Members to NOT  say "Goodbye" or anything else that would let spies know they are going offline, or away from Evony.
  • Hosts should NOT ever use Group Mails to Relay Sensitive Information to the Evony Alliance.

Furthermore, here are some things you can do as Alliance Leaders as well as Members to disrupt the flow of important information out of your Evony Alliance, as long as everyone that Matters is informed of what is really going on:

  • Send False Information throughout Evony Alliance Chat all the time, for example: Incorrect Troop/Resource  Counts, Falsely Say you are Going Offline or other things Regarding Schedule, Falsely Report the Target of a Certain City then Attack a Different city, etc..
  • Send Fake Group Mails to Suspected Spies and see if the Information is Passed out of the Evony Alliance.
  • Hosts should Keep a Watch on the External Chat Area for the entire Evony Alliance and compare what Topics are being discussed in what Areas by which Members to determine if they have High Position Spy, or just a Member Position Spy.
  • All New Applicant to the Evony Alliance should be Reviewed by Hosts, as well as Presbyters and even Officers – if the decision can not be made by Officers and Above, the New Applicant should not be approved unless a few Very Trusted Members can speak on his/her behalf.

So there you have it – some simple steps to help keep your Evony Alliance from succumbing to Evony Espionage. At first it will take some time to get all of the Trusted Alliance Members on the same page as the Leaders when it comes to dealing with Spies, but eventually you will have a good grasp of who in your Evony Alliance is trustworthy and who is not, as well as How To tell when New Members are Spies right from the start.

Remember, a Smaller Evony Alliance of Skilled and Trustworthy Members can be much more Effective than a larger Evony Alliance riddled with Spies and members just looking for a Free Ride. Happy Farming!

Evony Strategy – Battle Mechanics: Compact / 5K Range Guide

Introduction: Evony Strategy – Battle Mechanics: Compact / 5K Range Guide

The purpose of this guide is to help people understand the basics of battle mechanics. This may sound surprising in a way but there are quite a few established players that only know what waves work but not the why. If you come here as a new Evony player this will help you understand how to conserve your troops in fights and become a strong player overall. The concept is generally simple but without visuals it could be confusing. I’ve tried to give a visual of the information and believe it will help even the newest people learn.

Battlefield: Evony Strategy – Battle Mechanics: Compact / 5K Range Guide

The most important thing you need to know is there are two sizes of battlefields. The length of the battlefield is determined by the “base” distance of your fortifications. To state this now we are always assuming level 10 walls as they give a 200 range bonus.C omparing these fields to real life you are either fighting on a tennis court which is small and compact or on a soccer field which would be a considerably large range. The two battlefields you face are referred to compact or range/5k. Here is a side by side comparison.

Evony Compact Defense

Evony Ranged 5K Defense

As you can see range defense is much much bigger. When attacking or defending in Evony you must be able to recognize what defense you’re fighting and adjust your game play towards this. This is the difference between good players and great players.

What determines the battlefield?

This is simple to see once you understand it. Look at the fortifications that a you or a player has. If you compare the compact chart to the range chart you will notice there is key differences. The compact chart only has archer towers whereas the range chart also has traps, abatis and trebs. If the base has ANY traps, abatis or trebs it is range. The word any means any combination of them, even it is 1!

  • Compact – Any combination of archer towers and logs only. Though logs were not included in the charts, despite my best efforts I could find a situation where logs actually helped you. Bottom line compact defense is pure towers or no fortifications at all.
  • Range – This can be any combination of fortifications but must include at least ONE trap, abatis or treb. As stated before, if there are any traps, abatis or trebs then it is range!

General Rules

Now to keep this as simple as possible we are sticking to the basic need to know information and that is what attacks what and when. A point to clarify is that attack value is the amount of a specific troop *times* their attack.

  1. Ranged units must first engage opposing ranged units with the highest combined attack value when they are within range of each other.
  2. Ranged attackers must engage archer towers before units.
  3. Ranged units engage melee troops from fastest to slowest.
  4. Melee units engage the opposing units within range that have the highest combined attack value.
  5. Scouts do not advance until all units from their side have been killed.

Compact Defense

Evony Compact Defense Detailed

The quick short and sweet answer of why people go compact defense is so they can protect their melee troops against ranged attacks and to use archer towers as a shield. When archer towers are gone troops are within distance of each other to exchange fire.

This defense has several advantages and is typically the defense of choice in war cities as it protects melee layers. Remember that if the defender has archer towers, they are used as a shield until they are dead. Here are some examples.

Towers Present – Towers are lost but no ranged troops are injured due to towers absorbing mechs. Minimal melee troops were lost to the defender due to the layering of the attackers wave.

Evony Compact Defense - Tower Shield

No towers present – Massive losses incurred to ballistas because lack of towers. Defender did have an intel hero present, however ballista had a much higher attack value therefore they were hit.

Evony Compact Defense - No Towers

Now if you review all the general rules of engagement there is a massive pitfall to this defense if you get caught with it. This defense is ment to defend melee troops from ranged, however you will notice that ranged units cannot engage melee troops until all units are dead. This can be a major problem if you as the defender have NO melee troops left.

Viof Jack Attack – Defender is caught with ZERO melee troops to stop phrax advance, the attacker exploits battle mechanics and adds one of each ranged troop and the fastest troops leading to phrax.

Range/5K Defense

Evony Ranged 5K Defense Detailed

This defense is generally good at protecting your ranged troops however it is terrible at protecting your melee troops. As a defender storing massive sums of melee troops is a bad idea and it happens way too often.

Keep in mind that opposing ranged units are NOT within range of each other. What ends up happening is your melee troops go charging into enemy fire. As an attacker/defender you should send minimal melee layers with attacks/defense to slow the enemy advance. Important to note that mechs out range archers so you can take massive damage against mech waves.

Mech attack

Defender has large amount of melee troops and is in range. The defenders melee troops march forward into range of the attackers parked mech to be killed.

Evony Mech Wave

Mech Defense

Range is the prime setting for using the mech defense. Since the defender has no melee on the battle field there is nothing for the attacker to kill. As the attacker marches, they are outranged by the defenders mechs. The small amount of defending troops were killed by the attackers scouts.

Recap / Conclusion

Knowing what are the strong and weak spots of each defense will be vital in setting up your defense and exploiting others defenses. It is wise to have bases with different setups to protect different troops.
